I hope you and your family and friends stay well and face the tremendous challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has created for everyone in the UK and around the world.
I wanted to make sure that we changed our business to serve our team and customers as best we could.
I spoke to Sky News about these challenges as a mother and business owner, which are not only responsible for my children, but also for the safety of over 50 people who work at Pai.
Here is what we did and are doing.
Since March 2nd our back office team (70% of our workforce) has been working from home – we use Zoom LOTS! Even our regular office yoga is on video!
Those who need to be in the office – our teams, chemists, production and logistics teams – were out of peak hours. The way is mostly by bike and car. We're starting a taxi service to get people home safely.
When people get sick or have to isolate themselves, we pay their wages and send them care packages.
Our teams work in a clean zone. The production facility has airlocks, Hepa filter air cleaning and ISO standard protocols. The team wears disposable gloves, hairnets and protective clothing.
All surfaces are disinfected daily and the entire building is regularly cleaned thoroughly.
There is a global shortage of hand disinfectant gel.
Two weeks ago we decided to create one. I am so proud of how the team teamed up to launch a brand new product in two weeks (instead of the 18 months they are used to perfecting a product!)
Our hand disinfectant "Acton Spirit" will be launched this week. Pai is based in South Acton and we thought that summed up the amazing resilience and community spirit that we see here in West London.
Much of the first batch will be given free of charge to neighboring schools, kindergartens, charities and local businesses from Pai to help them and our community.
We will soon have inventories for Pais British customers * and will first give them away with orders – before they are sold to new customers.
The packaging may be somewhat provisional at first – we label existing tubes for reasons of speed. But I thought you would be forgiven if it worked!
(* We will begin shipping to European customers as soon as we can, but we cannot ship to the United States or worldwide right now because shipping of high alcohol products is restricted.)
Will our service levels change?
We all work hard to maintain a "normal" service in these far from normal times.
We design, create, manufacture and sell all of our products from our headquarters in London. This gives us tremendous freedom to move when and where we need to.
We’ve added additional slots for phone and video consultations and will be kept up to date to get helpful home hacks and all the content we can muster, to raise the mood.
In conclusion …
This is the time when we find strength and resilience that we didn't know we had within.
We will survive this surreal time by continuing to find humor every day and be inspired by our fellow human beings.
For the strong of health and heart, we will work together to bring support and comfort to the vulnerable. For older and vulnerable people, trust that you will gather.
I would like to use the following words as my own, but they belong to Ariana Huffington. You feel pretty apt.
We all have a central place of wisdom, harmony and strength within us. As Archimedes said, "Give me a place to stand and I will move the earth." … In this sacred place, life changes from struggle to grace and we are suddenly full of trust, regardless of our obstacles, challenges or disappointments.
Send Pais love to all of you,
