Change your New Yr's resolutions in opposition to them

How are these New Year's resolutions going?

Despite our best intentions, research shows that only 8% of us manage to stick to their resolutions for an entire year, with only 58% of us persisting through the end of January without giving up entirely.

But don't be discouraged! It's probably not our willpower that is to blame. The thinking process behind our resolutions and the language in which we formulate them can have a major impact on their success.

The key lies in setting SMART goals:

Specific – measurable – achievable

Time-based – realistic

We exchanged three of the most common resolutions for targets that are just a little SMART.

Swap: Get more exercise

For: Try a new activity once a week.

Finding a sport you love is key to being active on a regular basis – and there is something for everyone.

Instead of pursuing a vague goal of being more active, attract a friend and try a new sport every week until you find one that you really enjoy.

Gyms and sports clubs often offer their first class free of charge, so this is also one of the cheapest ways to get active.
