Our Age Confidence Cream got a little boost last year. One of the new ingredients we've added is ectoine. It's a skin miracle we've wanted to use for a long time and now we finally have it.
So if you're wondering what makes Ectoine a wonderful skin ingredient, keep reading.
Scientists unexpectedly discovered Ectoine in 1985 in an Egyptian desert. It is a substance that protects small microorganisms that grow in some of the most hostile and harsh environments on earth, such as salt lakes and deserts.
Ectoin is an amino acid known as an "extremolyte". Extremolytes are natural stress protection molecules that microorganisms and plants produce to counteract stress factors such as drought and extreme temperature fluctuations in their habitats.
The self-defense and survival substance of Ectoine is a natural moisture binding agent. When it combines with water on the skin, it helps restructure the cell membrane. This protects our skin cells to a high degree against UV damage, fluctuating temperatures and dirt and prevents early signs of skin damage.
Studies show that ectoine also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe skin inflammation. It also protects against allergens and can help soothe skin prone to redness and sensitivity.
It is also being considered to increase the effect of the skin barrier, which can help to trap moisture for longer.
We have included Ectoine in our new formulation to improve the hydration, elasticity and surface structure of the skin and to keep its appearance plump and smooth.
We'd like to know what you think of our new formula.
